(More customer reviews)032711 - At the moment, we're in the process of running new pipes to the new water heater location. The water heater looks like a very serious piece of hardware. Plumbers in the area use it so, we'll see how it does. So far very impressive looking unit.
040111 - A work of art. We had to work on the existing plumbing system and upgrade to make it as stream line as possible to help maximize the hot water input. The unit delivers hot water in seconds without any problems.
We did not add the indoor control panel, however. Once the unit is set to factory specs, it more than meet requirements. Of course, its up to the owner to dictate what's sufficient, if necessary it will be set to meet client's expectations.

Water Worker G5L Thermal Expansion Tank With Male Pipe Thread Review

(More customer reviews)When I purchased the Water Worker G-5 Thermal Expansion Tank in Nov 2009, I did so even though I had read somewhere another buyer had experienced a failure in the unit's bladder. Well, mine failed too. Today (April 2011) I found the pressure stem valve spewing water (bad news). I am guessing the bladder failed about a year ago (6 months after the installation) based on my recollection of how my water system performed (water heater relief valve activating). I do not see any guarantee information on the installation manual and cannot find anything online about a guarantee.
Update - June 2011 - As it turns out the unit had a 5-yr guarantee, which was honored without question. I used the refund to buy a larger unit and now believe the G-5 unit was too small for my water heater. Everything is working fine. This includes no water heater pressure release valve openings.
Important note: this manufacturer recommends larger expansion tank size than do many tables found on the INTERNET. Paying attention to the water heater size recommendations on the box can help you avoid a lot of trouble.
I changed my rating from 1 to 4 stars based on the hassle-free replacement and because the G-5 failure was probably caused by my increase in water heater tank size: not a defect in the product.

Bosch ProTankless 940 ES NG Tankless Water Heater, Natural Gas (FD# 886) Review

(More customer reviews)My family just opened up a small business to stay afloat and since it's in such a crammed space we went with this tankless heater as we figured it would save us space which, indeed, it has.
It has also cost us over $400 in repair costs since it came with the control panel wired incorrectly forcing the heater to stop working after a month of operation. When the plumber contacted Bosch, Bosch realized it was the faulty control panel so they sent in another one. Unfortunately, they did not offer to pay for the labor, nor did they cover us for the expense of getting the thing working again in the first place though they have encouraged us to visit bosch.com to find the schematics on how to install the new control panel ourselves so as to avoid any additional costs. We're not plumbers.
In short, poorly manufactured heater with the customer service to back it up.

(More customer reviews)This "hot" water heater came with the house we bought. The problem is the water looses heat, rapidly. In fact the water is instantly ice cold without warning(dangerous for Grandmothers). It is less than five years old. The plumber has been to our house a couple times to look at it; as did the previous owners. The last time he was on the phone with Takagi's tech support and they both could not trouble shoot the problem. Everything tech support suggested was checked and the result was; no reason for the cold water problem. The fact is we're wasting more cold water down the drain than saving by having the "on demand" water heater. With the service calls, we're installing a tank water heater. I honestly don't think Takagi could get me to install another of their products in my house, even if it were free. Every bath, shower, laundry load and dish washer load shouldn't be an uphill battle.

(More customer reviews)We have had the hydroignition Bosch 125 Natural Gas Tankless for a year and a half now. It is absolutely incredible. I have checked our gas bill each month for the first year and the minimum we have saved (gas usage, not gas bill) is 22% each month! We have used as much as 77% less gas than the same month the previous year. Unlimited hot water on demand! No drawbacks. Plus, it uses a small space compared to the dinosaur tank water heater we had before. It fits attached to a stud where it's out of the way!!!! I would NEVER go back to the traditional tank water heater. Temperature control is extremely simple. Don't let unknowledgeable plumbers steer you astray with ridiculous things like "the water doesn't get hot" UNTRUE!!!!! Those plumbers just don't know and don't care to know and are stuck in the plumbing dark ages. This is the only way to go. Bosch stands behind this product.

Rheem RTG-74PVN Indoor Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater for 2-3 Bathroom Homes Review

(More customer reviews)As a service provider, here was a recent and typical service call on a 74 model. the customer lives 1 1/4 hr away, call Sat with an error code 11. this had been in service for 3 months and worked fine, then quite. Rheem requires as a service provider, that I call in, get a case number and proceed from there. They are available Sat for tech support but good luck waiting on the phone. I came back Monday, trip number two, talked through two levels of tech support. I didn't agree with their assessment and they sent an ignition module. Wed, trip three, I installed the part and it. I tried to explain, it was most likely a control board and gas valve combined problem and the tech, she didn't think so. after 9 commbined hors of driving and attempts at service, the customer was left with a still non functioning water heater. I've been working on these for about 30 years but when I have to work according to their at a distance analysis, reading a prompter, service fails. They do not have a system of regional parts available and are not willing to allow me to purchase and stock these.
so if you are considering purchasing a tankless water heater, a little due diligence with regards to service will save an enormous amount of heartburn...
Paloma and Rheem need to create a service network that supports those in the field who will be performing warranty work. Until that day arrives, I do not recommend these...

We have had one for just over a year and have had trouble 3 times. When you need parts, plan on paying for them and paying for shipping. There is not much of a warranty and customer service is very kind but ineffective. We love the idea of tankless but made a very poor decision going with this company. Please do not make the mistake we did unless you like a cold shower.

Rheem 22VR40FN Ultra Low Nox Natural Gas Water Heater, 40 Gallon Review

I have a 50 gallon water heater that has started making a horrendous noise that resonates through the house immediately when the hot water is turned on. The warranty is 6 year parts no labor from Rheem. I have no problem with that. I called the plumbing company that originally installed it. They checked it out and could not determine the source of the problem. I called Rheem. The gentleman told me exactly what should have been checked and told me it could be only one of two things. I called my servicer. The company owner contacted Rheem to confirm what I was told. Another visit from repairman. He did everything Rheem told me and the company owner to do, to no avail. It is not sediment. It is inside the tank and the noise originates from the exact same place on the left side every time. I called Rheem back and told them it was still a problem and requested a new tank. I was told they would not replace it because I couldn't prove what was wrong to warrant the replacement. She now gave me another item that should be checked. She also told me to call my gas company and have the gas checked, except the burner doesn't even kick on and the noise is happening. This is the third service call, and mind you, they don't cover any labor. I think I have been more than patient and they, who manufactured the item, can't tell me what is wrong, but they expect me to tell them what is wrong for them to replace it. The woman basically tried to brush me off. She told me there is no reason it should be making that noise. I think I already knew that. I would never buy a Rheem again. I agree that I had a responsibility to try to have it repaired first, but I think I have more than fulfilled my part of the deal. I can't say all Rheem products are a problem, but their customer service is horrible if you do have a problem.

Reliance 6 40 GORT 606 Series 40 Gallon Natural Gas Water Heater Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this to save myself a bit of money, but it hasn't really done that. It worked flawlessly for about a year (I purchased it in 2008) but then the thermocouple went out. In addition, the electric igniter also went out (which I didn't even know was possible) so that once the thermocouple was replaced it was not possible to re-light it. I could not find a part number for the igniter, and emailed the company to see if they could help me with it. They responded 5 business days later with a part number (and news that pretty much the only thing covered by warranty is the tank against leaks), by which point I had already bought an aftermarket igniter that would do the job, but just hangs limply off the side of it by the lead wire. It worked flawlessly again for about 8 months, then the thermocouple went out again. I replaced it again -the aftermarket igniter is still working. And another ~1 year later the thermocouple went out yet again. I don't know if there is a design flaw in this specific model but having to replace the thermocouple once a year doesn't seem like a reasonable trade to save a hundred bucks over buying a better brand that might warranty the defective parts or offer a solution if a design flaw causes a part to fail repeatedly.
I certainly won't buy another Reliance product.
