(More customer reviews)As others have said, this company and products should be completeley avoided. We are residential builders and installed two Seisco units in a home we built. Circuit board for one unit had to be replaced within months of install.
Now a few years later the circuit boards for both units have failed and customer serivce says they will not have another circuit board to send us for a week. That means no hot water for the home and residents for a week or more. Simply unbelievable.
They do not take their business seriously it seems and when we have tried to contact David Seitz, the designer and apparent owner of the company, he has never responded. Years ago there were only a few manufacturers that made whole house electric units. Now there are many more and most of the large companies have product offerings. If you are dead set on using an electric on-demand unit our advice is to stick with a large company and prferably a known brand.
Needless to say we will never buy products from them again.

(More customer reviews)I am a general contractor and have used an on-demand tankless water heater in my 3200 square foot home since I built it in 1984, when few people in the US had tankless water heaters. That first LP heater served my family well, but it required a pilot light that was always on and it used a rubber diaphragm to turn the heater on. The diaphragm had to be replaced every three or four years. That heater was made in the UK and getting repair parts and someone who could do the repairs was problematic. About three years ago, I replaced it with a Takagi T-K Jr-LP Liquid Propane Flash Liquid Propane Compact Tan. It uses a different sensing method and it ignites using an electronic starter. Installation was fairly simple for me, so I did the ventilation, plumbing, and electrical work myself. The only complication was the addition of a 115 VAC outlet to the heater closet because the Takagi T-K Jr LP requires an electrical hookup to power its computerized controller. The heater also must be properly vented to outside air, so, to meet building code where I live, I also had to buy and install a stainless steel vent through the roof. The venting materials can cost almost as much as the heater depending on where the heater is installed. NOTE: More than likely, you should hire a licensed contractor to do the installation to ensure that the job is done correctly (according to code requirements where it is to be used) and for safety. The Takagi T-K Jr was definitely a very good buy and I have confidently recommended it to my friends and will continue to do so.

Works great - cuts heating time by 60%. I also use it my shop to get warm water - rather than the expense of installing a hot water heater.
Wish the cord was a bit longer, but the guard around the element keeps it off the bottom of the tub
and the 1000W power makes it easy to plug into any electrical outlet.
This is a well made product - lots of uses around the house.

(More customer reviews)This "hot" water heater came with the house we bought. The problem is the water looses heat, rapidly. In fact the water is instantly ice cold without warning(dangerous for Grandmothers). It is less than five years old. The plumber has been to our house a couple times to look at it; as did the previous owners. The last time he was on the phone with Takagi's tech support and they both could not trouble shoot the problem. Everything tech support suggested was checked and the result was; no reason for the cold water problem. The fact is we're wasting more cold water down the drain than saving by having the "on demand" water heater. With the service calls, we're installing a tank water heater. I honestly don't think Takagi could get me to install another of their products in my house, even if it were free. Every bath, shower, laundry load and dish washer load shouldn't be an uphill battle.

My tank is 28 years old now, and still no leaks. I did have to replace the thermocouple about 12 years ago, and the pressure relief valve about 2 years ago, they have nothing to do with the anode rod, and the tank probably would have rusted out before these quit if I hadn't replaced the anode rod. Sure beats replacing the tank! I think I have saved a lot of money this way. Even if I only had to replace the tank every ten years, it still would have cost much more.

(More customer reviews)As a service provider, here was a recent and typical service call on a 74 model. the customer lives 1 1/4 hr away, call Sat with an error code 11. this had been in service for 3 months and worked fine, then quite. Rheem requires as a service provider, that I call in, get a case number and proceed from there. They are available Sat for tech support but good luck waiting on the phone. I came back Monday, trip number two, talked through two levels of tech support. I didn't agree with their assessment and they sent an ignition module. Wed, trip three, I installed the part and it. I tried to explain, it was most likely a control board and gas valve combined problem and the tech, she didn't think so. after 9 commbined hors of driving and attempts at service, the customer was left with a still non functioning water heater. I've been working on these for about 30 years but when I have to work according to their at a distance analysis, reading a prompter, service fails. They do not have a system of regional parts available and are not willing to allow me to purchase and stock these.
so if you are considering purchasing a tankless water heater, a little due diligence with regards to service will save an enormous amount of heartburn...
Paloma and Rheem need to create a service network that supports those in the field who will be performing warranty work. Until that day arrives, I do not recommend these...

Cash Acme U3088FLEX12 Flexible Water Heater Connector Review

I purchased this product from The Home Depot when I purchased and installed a new water heater. As usual, the sharkbite (Cash Acme) fitting was s breeze to install. However, approximatively 6 months from the time of installation, we started noticing black pieces of rubber coming from the hot water in the bath tub while giving our kids baths. I thought the valve seal washers were going out, so I replaced them, but they were good. Traced the problem back to the hot water tank and eventually found that the rubber lining inside the sharkbite hot water heater line was deteriorating. I went back to the Depot and had a look at the shartbite hot water heater line and compared it to the other threaded by threaded braided lines. The sharkbite was lined with black rubber just like you'd find in a garden hose. No way suitable for extended potable hot water service. The other threaded by threaded line was poly lined (white polyethylene).
Below are a couple links to pictures I took of the failed sharkbike fitting. This is really surprising that they'd build this product like this. I've used sharkbite fittings on several occasions and have had nothing but good things to say. But this time, Cash Acme got it wrong. This product is defective and needs to be pulled from the shelves and a new lining needs to be designed and installed on future products.

We have had one for just over a year and have had trouble 3 times. When you need parts, plan on paying for them and paying for shipping. There is not much of a warranty and customer service is very kind but ineffective. We love the idea of tankless but made a very poor decision going with this company. Please do not make the mistake we did unless you like a cold shower.

Reliance 6 40 GORT 606 Series 40 Gallon Natural Gas Water Heater Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this to save myself a bit of money, but it hasn't really done that. It worked flawlessly for about a year (I purchased it in 2008) but then the thermocouple went out. In addition, the electric igniter also went out (which I didn't even know was possible) so that once the thermocouple was replaced it was not possible to re-light it. I could not find a part number for the igniter, and emailed the company to see if they could help me with it. They responded 5 business days later with a part number (and news that pretty much the only thing covered by warranty is the tank against leaks), by which point I had already bought an aftermarket igniter that would do the job, but just hangs limply off the side of it by the lead wire. It worked flawlessly again for about 8 months, then the thermocouple went out again. I replaced it again -the aftermarket igniter is still working. And another ~1 year later the thermocouple went out yet again. I don't know if there is a design flaw in this specific model but having to replace the thermocouple once a year doesn't seem like a reasonable trade to save a hundred bucks over buying a better brand that might warranty the defective parts or offer a solution if a design flaw causes a part to fail repeatedly.
I certainly won't buy another Reliance product.

The unit works well. Was easily installed. Water heat is fine for our small-demand house (2bed/2bath/1500SF). The only thing that takes some getting used to is the minimum flow requirement. There's no way to get any hot water without turning a given fauct on at over 50% capacity. And single-knob showers can get a little tricky to balance.
NOTEZ BIEN:
Before installing, verify that your grid tie-in is sufficient. My panel is 200A, but the utility company tied in with a wire only capable of carrying 100A. This was fine for my house until this unit was installed. It requires 3@40A breakers, which was no problem...plenty of room on the board. But now, whenever the hot water flows, the lights throughout the house start a pulsing. I've called my retail provider, my utilities service provider, and the service director several times over the last 2 weeks, and can't get anyone to get out here and run thicker copper. It's not too annoying, but I'm concerned that the wire's going to fry if they don't get their act together and figure out whose job it is to fix this.
****Update****
Even with the electrical issues taken care of, the unit I bought, which worked well for several months, started acting up on me. Intermittent hot/lukewarm was a major issue. No flow problems: was running a shower alone. After some time, I opened the box and noticed that the unit had a leak in one of the 3 "coils" (tubes, really). I called the manufacturer, they verified the warranty info, and sent me a new unit. The new unit worked for about 6 months before it also stopped providing hot water. Not sure how I ended up with 2 dogs, but that was enough. No leaking the second time around, but I gave up and went with a regular tank, as the house was by then a rental.
I'd drop it to one star if it wasn't for the great customer service I received.

Camco 11572 Aluminum Anode Rod Review

(More customer reviews)I picked-up a few of these here when one of our 3 Water Heaters failed after only 4 years; a leak had developed at one of the top welds and so wasn't just a matter of re-seating a fitting up there. In looking at the failed heater's Anode Rod, it was almost all wire i.e. no sacrificial metal left so clearly the top of the WH had rusted-out somewhere already.
I've now replaced the ARs on the other two of our WHs and sure enough they were almost gone as well--hopefully w/the new rods they will last indefinitely. I'm already planning to replace all 3 (again) in another 3 years!
Some things to know:
1. There are "flexible" anode rods available at much greater cost, but you should be able to angle this 42" rod in almost anywhere. If not you can cut it down and save big $$$.
2. You will most likely need a 1/2" Impact Wrench to get the old AR out--it will be turned-in very tight! I bought the cheapest Impact Wrench I could find as this is the only application I will likely have for one.
3. You will also need a 1 1/16" half-inch socket to extract the old AR. These aren't in most sets but you can buy them individually at the local hardware store.
4. You'll use teflon tape to wrap the threads of the new AR to assure "no leaks". Don't worry that this will keep the AR from working i.e. it will not block the electrical flow. When you screw-in the new AR the threads will cut-thru the tape and make a good enough connection.
5. Finally, as always start the AR into the Water Heater BY HAND, and don't use the Impact Wrench to install it--just snug it down with your 1/2 inch ratchet by hand. Check it periodically for a day or three to make sure there are no leaks.
Thanks Amazon for making these available--for some reason despite our awful water these are impossible to come by in local retail stores!

(More customer reviews)This is a great product, the only real drawback is that with San Diego California's extremely hard water, it needs
cleaned and a new anode rod screwed in every six months - I am finally breaking down a buying a wet/vac to make the job much easier. That being said, it is perfect for my condo that has never had proper hot water to the kitchen (in 20 years time). As my condo hot water heater is common to the entire wing, I made sure when purchasing this 4 gallon water heater that I could plumb the "hot" water into the "cold" intake of the water heater, and thus boost my "hot" water coming into my kitchen to a proper temperature for my sink, dishwasher, and front-load washer. To me it is so very well worth cleaning and servicing the unit every six months to have the luxury or proper hot water in my kitchen, and to know that when the condo hot water is on the fritz, I have hot water for my sink and appliances anyway. Since this unit has a convenient on/off switch on the front, I simply turn the unit off when I leave for the day, and turn it on when I want.

Stiebel Eltron DHC 3-1 Electric Tankless Water Heater Review

(More customer reviews)Had high expectations that this nice looking German engineered device would solve demand for instant hot water at a single sink. Not exactly "instant". It takes a while for the water to even get warm. The problem is the water needs to flow slowly in order to benefit from the electrical heater. Naturally that means a very low flow output. A small tank device would be better...but alas, is much more expensive to run in order to keep the water hot 24 hours a day. Also don't forget...This requires a new 30amp electrical circuit and water by-pass shut-off valves to be installed. Not for the handyman-challenged.
