Takagi T-K3-N Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater - 199k BTU Review

Takagi T-K3-N Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater - 199k BTU
Average Reviews:

We love our Takagi! This heater is doing a great job and we've had it for a year now. With the old boiler type we were going through our 83 liter tank in about 4 weeks (including other appl. as well), but after we installed this unit we are going through 83 ltr. in 6-7 weeks. The run to the Master bedroom is quiet far and the piping is exposed, so it does take just a little bit longer, but not much. I have found that if you turn the water on half way and wait for it to get hot,,,then turn it up all the way it will actually take less time for the hot water to get to you. This unit is small, very easy to install, and I can't say enough about it.

Bosch ProTankless 940 ES NG Tankless Water Heater, Natural Gas (FD# 886) Review

Bosch ProTankless 940 ES NG Tankless Water Heater, Natural Gas (FD# 886)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My family just opened up a small business to stay afloat and since it's in such a crammed space we went with this tankless heater as we figured it would save us space which, indeed, it has.
It has also cost us over $400 in repair costs since it came with the control panel wired incorrectly forcing the heater to stop working after a month of operation. When the plumber contacted Bosch, Bosch realized it was the faulty control panel so they sent in another one. Unfortunately, they did not offer to pay for the labor, nor did they cover us for the expense of getting the thing working again in the first place though they have encouraged us to visit bosch.com to find the schematics on how to install the new control panel ourselves so as to avoid any additional costs. We're not plumbers.
In short, poorly manufactured heater with the customer service to back it up.

Takagi T-K Jr-NG Natural Gas Flash Natural Gas Compact Tankless Water Heater 5.8 GPM - Can be Instal Review

Takagi T-K Jr-NG Natural Gas Flash Natural Gas Compact Tankless Water Heater 5.8 GPM - Can be Instal
Average Reviews:

This "hot" water heater came with the house we bought. The problem is the water looses heat, rapidly. In fact the water is instantly ice cold without warning(dangerous for Grandmothers). It is less than five years old. The plumber has been to our house a couple times to look at it; as did the previous owners. The last time he was on the phone with Takagi's tech support and they both could not trouble shoot the problem. Everything tech support suggested was checked and the result was; no reason for the cold water problem. The fact is we're wasting more cold water down the drain than saving by having the "on demand" water heater. With the service calls, we're installing a tank water heater. I honestly don't think Takagi could get me to install another of their products in my house, even if it were free. Every bath, shower, laundry load and dish washer load shouldn't be an uphill battle.

EZ Deluxe Tankless Water Heater - 3.4 GPM - Natural Gas (NG) - Indoor Whole Home - FREE DIRECT VENT EXHAUST INCLUDED - FREE SHIPPING

These seem to be a well built water heater with the only problem being the temperature rise per GPM is grossly overstated. These are rated as a 25KW heater buy their maker, Vanward of China. This means they have about an 85000 BTU input with a 75000 BTU output. What this means is they actually will only give you 3.3 GPM at a 45° rise.
I would not recommend these for anyone needing to run more then one faucet at a time and would not recommend them for anyone living in colder climate.
These are priced right and the direct venting is a plus, it is unfortunate they are being misrepresented.

Tankless Water Heater by Noritz - N-0751M-NG in N/A
Average Reviews:

I purchased a Noritz tankless heater 18 months ago. They told me I would be getting hot water faster. This was not true. It takes four times longer to get hot water. My water bills have gone up. It's very frustrating waiting and waiting to get hot water. The unit is noisy and can be heard on the upper level of my house. The hot water sometimes turns cold and I'm told this is common with Noritz heaters. It exhausts into the backyard and nearby windows cannot be opened because of the toxic fumes. I plan on having it replaced soon.

Bosch AquaStar Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater #125HX-NG Review

Bosch AquaStar Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater #125HX-NG
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have had the hydroignition Bosch 125 Natural Gas Tankless for a year and a half now. It is absolutely incredible. I have checked our gas bill each month for the first year and the minimum we have saved (gas usage, not gas bill) is 22% each month! We have used as much as 77% less gas than the same month the previous year. Unlimited hot water on demand! No drawbacks. Plus, it uses a small space compared to the dinosaur tank water heater we had before. It fits attached to a stud where it's out of the way!!!! I would NEVER go back to the traditional tank water heater. Temperature control is extremely simple. Don't let unknowledgeable plumbers steer you astray with ridiculous things like "the water doesn't get hot" UNTRUE!!!!! Those plumbers just don't know and don't care to know and are stuck in the plumbing dark ages. This is the only way to go. Bosch stands behind this product.

Rheem RTG-74PVN Indoor Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater for 2-3 Bathroom Homes Review

Rheem RTG-74PVN Indoor Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater for 2-3 Bathroom Homes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a service provider, here was a recent and typical service call on a 74 model. the customer lives 1 1/4 hr away, call Sat with an error code 11. this had been in service for 3 months and worked fine, then quite. Rheem requires as a service provider, that I call in, get a case number and proceed from there. They are available Sat for tech support but good luck waiting on the phone. I came back Monday, trip number two, talked through two levels of tech support. I didn't agree with their assessment and they sent an ignition module. Wed, trip three, I installed the part and it. I tried to explain, it was most likely a control board and gas valve combined problem and the tech, she didn't think so. after 9 commbined hors of driving and attempts at service, the customer was left with a still non functioning water heater. I've been working on these for about 30 years but when I have to work according to their at a distance analysis, reading a prompter, service fails. They do not have a system of regional parts available and are not willing to allow me to purchase and stock these.
so if you are considering purchasing a tankless water heater, a little due diligence with regards to service will save an enormous amount of heartburn...
Paloma and Rheem need to create a service network that supports those in the field who will be performing warranty work. Until that day arrives, I do not recommend these...

Bosch AquaStar Liquid Propane Tankless Water Heater #125B-LP Review

Bosch AquaStar Liquid Propane Tankless Water Heater #125B-LP
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I expect my appliances to be low maintenance. Aquastar 125B was installed 2-1/2 years ago in new construction, provides plenty of hot water for 2 low-flow showers simultaneously. Read manual when I moved into house, failed to perform annual maintenace of unit.
If you buy this product order water valve rebuild kit, you will need it.
In addition to annual maintenance the water control valve must be rebuilt every 2-5 years or a dangerous overheat condition arises. Mine currently requires rebuild. $15 in parts $30 shipping FedEx. The two set screws that connect the water control valve to the gas control valve are deterioted and frozen. The instructions say that if this condition exists, stop and call tech support as the gas control valve may be damaged. Repeated calls to tech support, more than 10, have resulted in no answer. Left messages that have not been returned. Emailed Controlled energy to get necessary parts. So far, eight days and no hot water; wife not very happy; I'm suffering.

Rheem RTG20147 Horizontal Direct Vent Kit Review

Rheem RTG20147 Horizontal Direct Vent Kit
Average Reviews:

This kit has everything you need to direct-vent horizontally. The pieces slide together well and can be attached with the included screws...BUT...if you are going through 17" of wall (e.g. a 12" concrete block wall with a 2"x4" stud wall in front of it) you need to buy a longer horizontal pipe to replace the too-short one in the kit. That extra pipe can cost about $100 from Rheem.

Bosch 125B-NG AquaStar Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater Review

Bosch 125B-NG AquaStar Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well, looks like my prior review on 4/22 has been deleted. I highly suspect that the complainers here, or one of them, "reported" me because I referred to their reviews and that probably violated policy, yada yada yada.
Ain't it the way of the world? Wonder how long this one will last.
In any event, if you are at all interested in the AquaStar, just listen to the positive reviewers, hook it up properly, and you'll be very happy with it I'm sure.
I suspect that the most common problems folks have are twofold:
1) They probably don't use the required 3/4" gas supply pipe and try to get by with the old 1/2" pipe that supplied their old tank-type hot water heater. Most 30-40 gallon tank types have a BTU input specification of 40,000 BTU's. The 1/2" supply line is adequate for that number of BTU's, but the AquaStar requires 117,000 BTU's and that's three (3) times as much. Thus you DO need to use the 3/4" supply line or you're just not feeding the thing enough fuel.
Don't give it enough gas to burn and what do you think is going to happen?
2) A lot of folks might try to get by with the old 3" vent pipe their old heater used. Again, that's not going to work. You NEED to vent the AquaStar with the proper-sized vent pipe or it's not going to breathe properly and thus not going to work properly.
Other than that, there's not much to worry about with the installation of this unit.
Install it properly and it will perform well for you and meet your expectations fully for many, many years to come.
Also, as I noted in my amended review previously -- now deleted of course -- this model here has changed from when I bought mine a few years ago. This new 125B has a standing pilot. If you want one like my old 125B, you now need to get the Model 125HX, which has the electronic ignition, as does mine. The difference between mine and that one is that mine uses 2 D-cell batteries, whereas the 125HX uses a water-powered turbine to supply the necessary electical power to fire the unit. Neato.
Also note (as I mentioned previously) that the former manufacturer, CONTROLLED ENERGY CORP., has been acquired and thus is no longer the current manufacturer. Try going to their former website and see for yourself.
I doubt this has compromised the quality or service, but it's something you should know.

Rheem RTG-66DVN Direct Vent Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater for 2-3 Bathroom Homes Review

Rheem RTG-66DVN Direct Vent Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater for 2-3 Bathroom Homes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the second Rheem tankless water heater I've installed during my ongoing-home-renovation project (I now have one on each end of the house).
Some things to be aware of:
1) There is a lag for the tankless water heater to kick in and start hot water through the pipes (three seconds?). My kitchen sink is on the floor directly above the tankless water heater and I have to run over a gallon of water out before I get hot water. For that reason I am going to install under-the-sink, pass-through mini-tank (2.5 gallon) electric water heaters in the kitchen and bathrooms for instant hot water.
2) In both cases I've direct-vented horizontally, through a stud wall that is in front of a 12" concrete block wall. The main horizontal 3"/5" pipe that comes in the direct-vent kit is too short to go through about 17" of wall, so I had to buy a longer 3"/5" pipe (for an extra $100) from Rheem to get through the walls. You still need to buy the kit, though, for the elbow and outside termination pieces.
3) This is subjective, but it seems the water in the hot water pipe gets cold faster than it did with the tank water heater. With a tank water heater you could get hot water, then come back 20 minutes later and the water was still fairly warm right away. With the tankless water heater it seems the water gets colder faster, so you have to run that gallon of water through the pipes to get to the hot water again. In both cases the hot water pipes were insulated.
4) About once every two-three months the wired-in remote control displays an error number...it has been different every time. The first two times the error number wasn't listed in the documentation, so I called for telephone support. Now I just unplug the unit, wait 5-10 seconds, and plug it in again. It starts right up.
5) I can't be sure it was only the swapping out of the water heater, but my gas/electric bill has been, on average, a bit lower since replacing my old 40 gallon gas water heater.

Rheem RTG-74DVP Direct Vent Liquid Propane Tankless Water Heater for 2-3 Bathroom Homes Review

Rheem RTG-74DVP Direct Vent Liquid Propane Tankless Water Heater for 2-3 Bathroom Homes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A thoroughly disreputable company. Warranty is worthless. If your Rheem water heater has a 6 year warranty and fails after 3.5 years (as ours did), you may find them using all kinds of questionable tactics to escape responsibility.
On three separate calls to three agents they insisted our heater was 7 years old. They had clearly been trained to say this, the patter was so automatic. When challenged with their own web-site's data, which stated (correctly) that the heater was still under warranty, they did not know what to say and hung up! The house had been built only 3.5 years earlier! And indeed, the heater's body was date-stamped 3.5 years ago. What was going on here? Either Rheem was lying, or the plumber or the plumber's merchant had supplied old product, falsely relabeled. Of course the plumber and his merchant denied that. Finally after a lot of photos, heated phone calls, and intervention by the plumber's merchant in escalating to Rheem management, we discovered the procedure for making a claim.
Rheem's claims are handled by a third party agency, ESIS Risk Management. We supplied photos of the leaking rusty tank and the flooding in the cellar and adjacent room that it had caused. ESIS are apparently tarred with the same dirty brush as Rheem. Despite the overwhelming evidence, ESIS' Susan Fritts insisted there was no proof of defect and that a report was required from a `forensic plumber.' Oh yeah, like we had sabotaged our own heater and voluntarily lived without hot water for two weeks?? The forensic exam could cost $1000 and would not be reimbursed even if Rheem were found to be at fault!! Outrageous! That's more than the cost of a new heater! ESIS and Rheem had created an impossible obstacle.
So we were stuck with buying a new heater. Now these things are built like tanks (ha!). They should not fail after 3. 5 years, sitting untouched in a basement. It makes you wonder if Rheem is supplying old refurbs that are falsely relabeled with a new manufacturing date. And then wriggling like crazy to escape any liability. CAVEAT EMPTOR!

Takagi T-K3-OS NG Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater, 190000 BTU Review

Takagi T-K3-OS NG Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater, 190000 BTU
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We had this unit installed less than 2 years ago. Worked great until last weekend- when I noticed water dripping from the bottom. Called a service rep who came out and said the heat exchanger was leaking and would need to be replaced- after much back and forth between the regional tech rep and the tech manager in the Takagi main office- Takagi reluctantly agreed honor the warranty for the part- but labor and shipping is not included. $50 have the part overnighted (no hot water) and $500 for the install. Again- the unit is less than 2 years old and only 2 of us in the house.
Reading online I see there are lots of similar complaints regarding Takagi quality and service. Had I known I would have chosen I different brand. There are many others out there with better warranties- make sure which ever you chose covers LABOR for fixing their own part failure.
While the regional Takagi rep here in FL was nice and helpful- the manager in the main office was rude and curt on the phone to me- making me feel like it was my fault for the unit breaking. I can only hope that this replacement part lasts for more than a few years, although judging by other people's posts online about Takagi quality, it is unlikely.
