(More customer reviews)OVERVIEW: In theory, this unit has the potential to save a few $$ on your gas bill, but it may increase your water bill since it takes a bit longer than normal to deliver hot water at the rated temperature. The unit starts as soon as the water flow sensor detects water flow, but the starting cycle takes a bit too long than desired, thus the amount of water being wasted waiting on the hot water was a bit to much in my opinion. INSTALLATION: Other than some minor modification to the existing water and gas piping, the installation process was fairly easy. Anyone with with basic pluming skills can perform the installation. MANUAL: I did encounter a few problems that I wish it was addressed in the installation manual. For example, the manual fails to mention the maximum distance that the unit can be placed from the gas meter cannot exceed 38 feet and that each elbow in the piping will decrease this distance by four feet. This info was disclosed to me, by customer service, when the unit kept error-ing out during start up and after numerous calls and emails back and forth. CUSTOMER SERVICE: This has probably been the best part of my entire experience. Customer service has been very supportive and courteous. They made me feel very comfortable by establishing an open avenue of communication and by providing me with the extra information not listed in the manual. OVERALL: the overall experience with the unit has been satisfactory from installation to operation. As for the savings in the gas, it's too early to tell. I will monitor my gas bill fro the next few months and see if it was worth it.

(More customer reviews)bought it directly from the rheem factory and had it installed the next day, it ran for about 20 hours before the circuit board went out..the water heater it replaced lasted twenty three years and now this new indoor Rheem couldnt even make it one day...SAD..im just glad its under warranty..so far they fixed me up without a problem and its still running great but now im wondering how long it will run after this fix..

cons...cost a fortune to install whether ur a diy or have it done professionally, makes clicking noises when shutting off and turning on, complicated to the extreme..lot of parts inside that may break..i.e. circuit board,fan,igniter, remote panel, heat exchanger, sensors out the wazzooADDED... JUNE 13 2011 This is awsome i love it!! lowest water bill ive ever had 17 bucks! yea i know the circuit board went out but it hasnt gave me a problem since and i love how the hot water never runs out. TOTALLY SATISFIED

(More customer reviews)This water heater was installed when my home was built in 2004. Since then we have had to replace the thermal coupler 4 times due to a design flaw. The company has given me the run around everytime this has happened. When I first call they always insist it is the gasline and not their product. Then even when a plumber changes out the part and the heater starts working they want you to reinstall the bad part a use a voltmeter to prove the part was bad at which point they will send you a new part, but you have to be willing to go without hot water for up to three days to get them to send it. As soon as we can afford a new water heater I am replacing this one. It has cost me about $300 in repairs so that my family doesn't have to go without hot water for days on end.

(More customer reviews)If you listen to InSinkErator you will end up purchasing a new unit if not under warranty. The unit is easily fixed see below my instructions. I did pass this on to thier Customer Service hopefully they will review it and publish the instructions for everyone. It takes no parts just minor disassembling and cleaning.
You can easily repair the faucet handle sticking problem from the top.
1.) turn off water - actually you could leave on
2.) using a 3/4 inch open end wrench to remove small retaining cap holding handles in faucet. If you look close you will notice flat sections on cap. Be carefull not to mar finish.
3.) Then pop off handle pivot cap with a small flat screwdriver exposing the stuck plunger. There is hex cap that hold plunger assembly in but you would need a very thin wall socket to remove entire plunger assembly.
4.) Clean as much green goo from plunger area with paper towels and a tooth-pic.
5.) Fill with WD40 cover entire plunger leave soaking over night. (don't use solvents!)
6.) This should loosen remaing debris. Also work plunger up and down, a 1/4 inch extension works good for this.
7. ) reassemble and you should be as good as new.
In-Sink-Erator only wants to sell a new faucet they don't offer and rebuild kit even though the faucet can be repair from top without removing from sink. My faucet works like new after I was done I added vasoline over plunger area hopefully to keep debris out.

(More customer reviews)For years I have been borrowing my Dad's old fashion thin metal socket that is used with a screw driver to turn it. I usually ended up cutting my hand when it slipped and took 30 minutes to get the thing removed since there was no way to get torque.
I never saw one of these REAL sockets made just for this project in the store but saw them on here and decided to give it a try. I turned off the water heater breaker, drained the unit and then attached this heavy duty socket to my socket wrench. Well the old saying " The right tool for the right job" not only held true, but now my Dad wants to borrow this from me. I had the water heater element removed in less than 30 seconds, not 30 minutes like the old one. ( came out like butter out of tub, in other words with ease )
1000% recommend this item, it truly paid for itself the first use and it is very sturdy. I can't see it ever breaking, it is heavy duty and expect it to last forever.

The tank maintains hot water, so it is not a "hot water on demand" product in the sense that the water is only heated when you need it. I don't think that's a negative though as the energy use is fairly negligible. The convenience is incredible. After filling a pot and putting it on the stove, the water boiled in less than a minute. Great for hot chocolate, tea, etc. as well.
