Jacuzzi S750000 RapidHeat In-Line Heater For Whirlpools
This product makes it possible to take a long Jacuzzi bath. It doesn't heat the water before it comes in but keeps it warm when the jets are on. It turns off when the jets are off. It also has an overheat mechanism that makes it shut off automatically to prevent it from burning out, but it turns back on when it cools off. It is not very large (I was surprised).
Make sure you get the right one for your tub. We contacted Jacuzzi directly to make sure. They make several kinds (intake and out and for older and newer designs of tubs). This one is an older model. We bought our tub in 2003. It might work with newer Jacuzzi tubs or other whirlpool tubs, but I'm not sure. Check with your manufacturer first.

Rheem RTG-66DVN Direct Vent Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater for 2-3 Bathroom Homes Review

Rheem RTG-66DVN Direct Vent Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater for 2-3 Bathroom Homes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the second Rheem tankless water heater I've installed during my ongoing-home-renovation project (I now have one on each end of the house).
Some things to be aware of:
1) There is a lag for the tankless water heater to kick in and start hot water through the pipes (three seconds?). My kitchen sink is on the floor directly above the tankless water heater and I have to run over a gallon of water out before I get hot water. For that reason I am going to install under-the-sink, pass-through mini-tank (2.5 gallon) electric water heaters in the kitchen and bathrooms for instant hot water.
2) In both cases I've direct-vented horizontally, through a stud wall that is in front of a 12" concrete block wall. The main horizontal 3"/5" pipe that comes in the direct-vent kit is too short to go through about 17" of wall, so I had to buy a longer 3"/5" pipe (for an extra $100) from Rheem to get through the walls. You still need to buy the kit, though, for the elbow and outside termination pieces.
3) This is subjective, but it seems the water in the hot water pipe gets cold faster than it did with the tank water heater. With a tank water heater you could get hot water, then come back 20 minutes later and the water was still fairly warm right away. With the tankless water heater it seems the water gets colder faster, so you have to run that gallon of water through the pipes to get to the hot water again. In both cases the hot water pipes were insulated.
4) About once every two-three months the wired-in remote control displays an error number...it has been different every time. The first two times the error number wasn't listed in the documentation, so I called for telephone support. Now I just unplug the unit, wait 5-10 seconds, and plug it in again. It starts right up.
5) I can't be sure it was only the swapping out of the water heater, but my gas/electric bill has been, on average, a bit lower since replacing my old 40 gallon gas water heater.

Rheem RTG-74DVP Direct Vent Liquid Propane Tankless Water Heater for 2-3 Bathroom Homes Review

Rheem RTG-74DVP Direct Vent Liquid Propane Tankless Water Heater for 2-3 Bathroom Homes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A thoroughly disreputable company. Warranty is worthless. If your Rheem water heater has a 6 year warranty and fails after 3.5 years (as ours did), you may find them using all kinds of questionable tactics to escape responsibility.
On three separate calls to three agents they insisted our heater was 7 years old. They had clearly been trained to say this, the patter was so automatic. When challenged with their own web-site's data, which stated (correctly) that the heater was still under warranty, they did not know what to say and hung up! The house had been built only 3.5 years earlier! And indeed, the heater's body was date-stamped 3.5 years ago. What was going on here? Either Rheem was lying, or the plumber or the plumber's merchant had supplied old product, falsely relabeled. Of course the plumber and his merchant denied that. Finally after a lot of photos, heated phone calls, and intervention by the plumber's merchant in escalating to Rheem management, we discovered the procedure for making a claim.
Rheem's claims are handled by a third party agency, ESIS Risk Management. We supplied photos of the leaking rusty tank and the flooding in the cellar and adjacent room that it had caused. ESIS are apparently tarred with the same dirty brush as Rheem. Despite the overwhelming evidence, ESIS' Susan Fritts insisted there was no proof of defect and that a report was required from a `forensic plumber.' Oh yeah, like we had sabotaged our own heater and voluntarily lived without hot water for two weeks?? The forensic exam could cost $1000 and would not be reimbursed even if Rheem were found to be at fault!! Outrageous! That's more than the cost of a new heater! ESIS and Rheem had created an impossible obstacle.
So we were stuck with buying a new heater. Now these things are built like tanks (ha!). They should not fail after 3. 5 years, sitting untouched in a basement. It makes you wonder if Rheem is supplying old refurbs that are falsely relabeled with a new manufacturing date. And then wriggling like crazy to escape any liability. CAVEAT EMPTOR!

Navien NR-180 Condensing Tankless Water Heater, Natural Gas Review

Navien NR-180 Condensing Tankless Water Heater, Natural Gas
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a Navien CR-180A (gas) and it's the worst water heater I've ever experienced.
1. It doesn't use less gas. I keep records of utility usage and in the summer months my gas bill is no lower with this unit than the previous 30gal tank HWH (hot water heater). If anything, it's slightly higher.
2. It does not supply constant temperature water to my shower. With the old HWH I was able to set the shower up, step in and shower for as long as I liked (probably never more than 15minutes) without readjusting the shower. Now, I must readjust the temperature several times during even the briefest of showers (5 minutes).
3. It doesn't always supply HOT (very warm yes, but not HOT) water. I notice this when setting up the dishwasher. I upped the temperature setting from factory recommended 120 to 125 degrees. I turn on the hot water tap at the kitchen faucet and let it run to heat the water in the line so the dishwasher draws hot water without a cold water "slug" in the line. I'm a hot water wimp and I can't tolerate even 120 degree water but with this HWH I can leave my hand under the tap flow for minutes. The HWH is in the basement directly below the kitchen so the pipe run is only a few feet. I get warm water and I start to pull my hand away and the water will actually cool off. This happens regularly when the HWH is in the "sleep" mode and not running the circulation pump. This does not occur at the washing machine only a few feet away.
Perhaps the HWH requires a higher flow rate to work but given that it doesn't use less energy than my old 30 gallon tank unit I see no reason to spring the extra bucks for a tankless unit. Perhaps Navien fixed the problems in subsequent designs but unless there's no alternative I won't waste my money trying to find out.
One nice feature is the circulation system that allows me to have almost instant hot (warm) water at the bathroom faucets but this could have been installed without going tankless.
Early on I had the installer come back because I noticed water collecting inside the unit. They installed washers to let the water drain outside the unit on the floor. It apparently is a very small quantity that evaporates quickly and I've never noticed a puddle under the unit. I complained about poor temperature regulation and they suggested I "reboot" the unit by unplugging and restarting. If it hadn't cost so much I'd reboot it with a slegde hammer - permanently.

Intermatic T104 208-277-Volt DPST 24 Hour Mechanical Time Switch Review

Intermatic T104 208-277-Volt DPST 24 Hour Mechanical Time Switch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This timer is usually used to control 230V swimming pool filter pumps. It operates a single on/off cycle during a 24-hour period, which is adjustable, requires 230 volts for operation and switches both poles (hot wires). My original timer finally expired after more than 30 years of use, so I bought this replacement from Amazon, which was less expensive than buying one from my local electrical distributor.
Fortunately, this new mechanism fits and snaps right into the old Intermatic housing. For those who just need to replace the functional parts, this greatly simplifies the installation. Amazon's price for the entire timer assembly including the metal housing was less than others charge for just the mechanism itsef.
It was shipped promptly, arrived undamaged and at a good price.

Takagi T-K3-OS NG Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater, 190000 BTU Review

Takagi T-K3-OS NG Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater, 190000 BTU
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We had this unit installed less than 2 years ago. Worked great until last weekend- when I noticed water dripping from the bottom. Called a service rep who came out and said the heat exchanger was leaking and would need to be replaced- after much back and forth between the regional tech rep and the tech manager in the Takagi main office- Takagi reluctantly agreed honor the warranty for the part- but labor and shipping is not included. $50 have the part overnighted (no hot water) and $500 for the install. Again- the unit is less than 2 years old and only 2 of us in the house.
Reading online I see there are lots of similar complaints regarding Takagi quality and service. Had I known I would have chosen I different brand. There are many others out there with better warranties- make sure which ever you chose covers LABOR for fixing their own part failure.
While the regional Takagi rep here in FL was nice and helpful- the manager in the main office was rude and curt on the phone to me- making me feel like it was my fault for the unit breaking. I can only hope that this replacement part lasts for more than a few years, although judging by other people's posts online about Takagi quality, it is unlikely.

FloodStop System for Water Heaters - Compression Fit Review

FloodStop System for Water Heaters - Compression Fit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Appears to be a quality item. Installation is a snap if you have at least some minimum plumbing skills -- it does require cutting into your cold water feed. Tests indicate it will perform it's intended function. Learned from conversation with vendor that it's programmed to cycle one a month to exercise the valve. This is an important feature that isn't apparent from any of the literature that I've read on it. Only question in my mind (came up after a long trip away) is, if a leak develops and the valve closes and remains closed for an extended time (as when you're away for maybe a month), and you have a gas fired HWH, what would happen as the burner continues to function during that period. Think that with a leak (the reason the system functioned)the tank would probably become empty. Don't know how the burner valve would perform in that situation; but, on balance that's perhaps a bit far fetched.

Rheem HP50RH Heat Pump Water Heater, 50 Gallon Review

Rheem HP50RH Heat Pump Water Heater, 50 Gallon
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My propane water heater was consuming about 300 gallons of propane a year and costing me about $900 a year. This water heater is supposed to cost me about $230/yr in electricity. With the tax credit and fuel savings, this hybrid water heater will shortly pay for itself and provide great savings and more dependable energy costs -- especially since the old water heater was eight years old.
It turned out that the plumber/electrician had little trouble running a new electric line from the breaker box to the furnace room in my house. Hooking up the water heater was straightforward.
The compressor heat pump only operates a few times during the day and even when it operates, it is a quiet hum or buzz (like my refrigerator). Home Depot offers a very long protection package. Very exciting and worthwhile investment especially since new "high efficiency" propane water heaters consume about 260 gallons a year and tankless water heater heaters consume about 200 gallons of propane a year.

Grundfos 595916 1/25 Horsepower Comfort Series Recirculator Pump Review

Grundfos 595916 1/25 Horsepower Comfort Series Recirculator Pump
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My plumber installed a Grundfos comfort system ( pipe and valve) for a guest bath, meaning I had hoped to use the timer on the pump and not have the pump on 24hours a day 7 days a week, but rather on only when I had guests and other wise the pump would be would be off. Turns out my situation is not a good fit for this system's characteristics. Using it the way I hoped to I have ALOT of hot water in the cold supply when the pump is off. When the warm supply is cool to cold the Comfort Valve is Wide open (ie a gallon or so a minute flow) and puts way too much hot water in the cold water supply, for the faucet where it is installed and critically other nearby faucets, which suffer from back flow as well . So now rather than wait for the hot water supply to deliver warm water .We have to wait for the cold water supply to supply cold on nearby faucets. The product reference material from GRUNDFOS doesn't point this out, if it had I would have done something different. My Plumber and I both spoke to Grunfos tech support on this one. THUMBS DOWN to Grundfos for not identifying situations where this system is not a fit.

Bosch 2400ES LP AquaStar 6.4-GPM Indoor Tankless Liquid Propane Water Heater Review

Bosch 2400ES LP AquaStar 6.4-GPM Indoor Tankless Liquid Propane Water Heater
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the Bosch 2400ES because of the excellent reputation enjoyed by Bosch.
The good points regarding this water heater -
- Its operation is very economical as it uses very little propane. I have given it a star to recognize its economy.
The bad points regarding this water heater -
- The water heater shuts down and restarts frequently. This leads to invigorating showers as it alternately produces about 90 seconds of hot water, then about 60 seconds of cold water. Based on what the service techs have told me and the troubleshooting methods they provided, it seems that the unit overheats, shuts down, and restarts after it cools down. The best guess is that the temperature of my incoming water is too high, and the water heater is not capable of heating a little. Being in Hawaii, my incoming water temperature is about 70 degrees. If you get your water as runoff from a glacier, you may find it works just fine.
- The water heater demands a fairly high rate of water flow to activate. This means that it does not activate to heat water when running our Whirlpool washing machine. To get hot water into the washer requires turning on a hot water tap and letting it run long enough for the water to heat, and keeping the tap on as long as the washer is filling. Likewise, the flow into our Bosch dishwasher is too low to activate the water heater. This means the internal (electric) water heater in the dishwasher works to bring the water to the necessary temperature, wasting electricity.
- It is slow to fire up. This means that, when handwashing dishes or the like, if you turn off the hot water you will get get cold water for a spell after the hot water sitting in the pipe has flowed out. As a result, you need to leave the hot water running continuously for such activities. I could understand a brief bit of cold water, but we are talking about 10 to 15 seconds of cold each time the hot water is turned off.
- The water heater uses approximately 5 watts of electricity continuously, more when the exhaust blower is operating. This amount of electric usage is ridiculous and goes far to offset the claimed efficiency.
My experiences with this and my Bosch dishwasher have completely disillusioned me on Bosch appliances and I will avoid them in the future.

Franke : The Little Butler Series LB1000 Instant Hot Water Dispenser - Polished Chrome
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You'd think with all the engineering capabilities that Franke has at their disposal, they coud have figured out how to make a dispenser in which the faucet was not open to the tank--they use it as a pressure valve since you can actually turn up the heat to the point that water boils in the tank. Why they don't have a regulator built in to keep that from happening and build in a different pressure valve is beyond me. As a result, our Little Butler is constantly dripping or sputtering. I've called Franke and they say, "You've got the water too hot." NOT. If I turn it down to where it doesn't drip, it's too cold to make tea. Try another brand. The Little Butler uses an inherently flawed approach. Check out the InSinkerator H-Wave or others in that series. I'm going to have to dump my Little Butler as it has become a pain in the butler to listen to the drip, drip, drip...

I plumbed this unit into a bidet washlet. Turns out it is not designed for point of use plumbing fixtures. Despite adjustments to the temperature control, the temperature varied considerably when turned off and on. Seems the mixing action of this valve changes the temperature during the same flow just by turning it off and on. I will install this unit on the house hotwater heater and get the AM-1 1070 series designed to meet the new ASSE 1070 plumbing standards requirements for point-of-use applications.
