Westbrass D271-12 Oil Rubbed Bronze Instant Hot Water Dispenser and Heating Tank Review

Westbrass D271-12 Oil Rubbed Bronze Instant Hot Water Dispenser and Heating Tank
Average Reviews:

We bought one of these hot water dispensers in Novemeber '09 after having owned Insinkerator brands in the last 2 homes in which we have lived. We selected this product based on the style and selection of stainless steel finish.
Recently, our Quick and Hot has begun emitting only a tiny trickle of water which takes forever to fill a cup. Not only that, but the water is dispensed in such a way that it comes out of the tap in a very erratic fashion, sometimes out of the center, but just as often, out of either side of the tap, so that it sputters and splashes the hot water onto your hand as you hold the cup. We looked in the instruction manual provided by the company and they suggest removing the filter to soak it in vinegar, then use a brush to remove any debris. This accomplished nothing. As the product has a one year replacement warranty, we thought we could contact the company for a possible replacement. Read the warranty carefully. It does not cover the following problems, which are taken from the instruction manual:
1. Water is not hot (really? isn't this a HOT water dispenser?)
2. Hot water drips of sputters from faucet (be sure to wear protective gear while using the dispenser)
3. Water does not flow right away or at all (really? are you just supposed to imagine how nice it would be to have the water come out into your cup?)
I would never buy another product made by this company.

Rheem RTE 3 Electric Tankless Water Heater, 1.5 GPM Review

Rheem RTE 3 Electric Tankless Water Heater, 1.5 GPM
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product never worked. I call Tech support and after a test with my multimeter THEY determined that I needed a new element, and told me that one was on the way. After a week, no element. I called to follow up and they told me that they now think that it does not need this element. I wasted a week waiting for a part that was never shipped.Customer service tried to convince me that they were doing me a favor by not shipping a part that would have not fixed my problem. However if I had not called I would have never known that it wasn't shipped.
I will be sending this item back to Amazon.com and purchasing a Bosch 2gal water heater

Rheem RHG PRO40-40F Pro Series Natural Gas Water Heater, 40 Gallon Review

Rheem RHG PRO40-40F Pro Series Natural Gas Water Heater, 40 Gallon
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I went out of my way to get this water heater due to the local supplier would not sell me one unless he installed it.It arrived in perfect condition or so I thought . I installed it with no problems at all. I turned on the water and it shot out the top of the Anode cap. Due to the suspended weight of the anode the forces caused the anode cap to crack during shipping. It should not have been installed before shiiping!! I e-mailed Rhhem twice and received NO reply. I called warranty service and got a very rude southern women who told me the anode is not covered under any warranty and i would have to buy it .Can you believe that? I refused so i ordered one from "Fiery Chill" on line for $21 shipped to the house. Rheem's cost for this part is about $5-6 and they refused to send me one Unbelievable!! The tank is a good product heats up in a flash, but Rheem is a terrible company as far as I am concerned . What if you have a real problem? The only difference between the 6yr tank and the 8yr tank is the anode Diameter . Buy the cheaper tank and buy the .900" anode you will save some money!!! Amazon is great they refunded the cost of the anode even though they didn't have to . Great company!!!!

Navien NR-240A (CR-240A) Tankless Hot Water Heater with Circulating Pump and Buffer Tank Review

Navien NR-240A (CR-240A) Tankless Hot Water Heater with Circulating Pump and Buffer Tank
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First: the Navien NR-series tankless has only been in service since Oct 2009, so the 2yr+ ownership reviews were done on the CR-series. The CR-series did have issues which were addressed in warranty fixes and massively updated on the NR-series. Second: do your research. I replaced my 17yr old A.O. Smith gas tank with the Navien NR-240A. The NR met my criteria of long warranty, EF, min GPM (zero). It didn't hurt either that I was getting the governments credit either, so I went to energystar.gov to do a lot of research heavy lifting. The "A" model included a small buffer tank (to eliminate the "cold sandwich") and a built in circulation pump. Make sure your plumber (or if you DYI) installs recirculation T's at the longest runs (in my case, master bathroom). Combinded with the built-in circulation pump, this will also eliminate the time it takes to get hot water to your facet (example: from 60sec to 5sec). Do not go with marketing fluff from other manufacturers (such as "market leader", "brand leader", etc...), go with what you need and what your criteria is (EF, GPM, warranty).
4JUN2011 - UPDATE: Instead of commenting on each of the "BAD" reviews - I'm going to generalize based on their issues:
* Again - anyone claiming 2+ yrs ownership, take that to mean they have the "CR" not the "NR".
* Installation/Plumber - the absolute key to these products. If the installer doesn't know what they are doing, you'll not have a good experience. If done correctly, you should not have to wait more than 45s for hot water (even if recirc is off).
* If your installer is decent, you shouldn't be calling Navien direct, you call your installer/plumber to resolve your issue.
* You shouldn't have to "doubled" your piping for recirc ... that's a good salesman to sell you that with this unit.
* If you do have a dedicated recirculation line and it's not working correctly - the installer is an idiot and doesn't know the system.
* Bootleg units, doubt it. That "NAVIEN" employee is full of crap. Anyone can purchase just about anything from distributors and resell.
* I have a SINGLE NR with 4 family members (sometimes 5... 3/4 female ... 2/3 of those ...

Quietside ODW-199A Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater, 7.2 GPM Review

Quietside ODW-199A Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater, 7.2 GPM
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We put in a Quietside tankless water heater last September and have had nothing but problems. The flow through the heater varies a lot -- sometimes it's a trickle, sometimes it's normal. It is always normal if I go outside and turn the darn thing on and off. Quietside says it's part of the design. Bull. I have a Taguki heater for the other end of my house which is perfect. In short, friends do not let friends buy Quietside tankless water heaters.

Rheem RHE PRO522 Pro Series Electric Water Heater, 50 Gallon Review

Rheem RHE PRO522 Pro Series Electric Water Heater, 50 Gallon
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

Rheem RHE PRO522 Pro :Rheem RHE PRO522 Pro Series Electric Water Heater, 50 Gallon i got this heater over a month ago and was finally able to take it out of the box. the box was clean, rigid, covered w/ blue plastic and had no visible damage. the unit is badly dented at the top side by the electrical connections and also around the base of the heater as if it had been compressed or collapsed by weight. obviously i cannot return it. i have yet to discover if the damage is more extensive than this.
i don't mind buying "scrath and dent"...i just want to know ahead of time! at this price point i would NOT have purchased the heater!!

Wayne PC2 115-Volt 340 GPH Portable Transfer Water Pump, Bronze Review

Wayne PC2 115-Volt 340 GPH Portable Transfer Water Pump, Bronze
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a very nice little pump. There are two problems though. It pulls 14 amps. If you want to use it in standard DC applications, a 10 amp max is more compatible. To use this in an automated/switched environment, I had to find a special relay to use. Second, the impellers burn out fast if this pump runs dry. There seems to be no easy way to order additional impellers and that's a pain.
