Stiebel Eltron Mini 4 Tankless Electric Water Heater - 220 - 240 Volt Review

Stiebel Eltron Mini 4 Tankless Electric Water Heater - 220 - 240 Volt

I'd like to first of all comment on other postings which gave the impression of how terrible this product is. On the contrary, this product is the best I have ever bought. It clearly states the Voltage rating as 220-240V so if you buy it without reading the technical details then you can only have yourself to blame. You should ask for the 110V rating if you live in North America and do not have a dual domestic electrical system (110/220~240V). Although it does involve some plumbing work, it is not as if one has to assemble a space shuttle. Please get an ordinary plumber who is able to connect a T-joint PVC pipe from your cold water source in the bathroom to the INLET of the Heater (Blue Dot) and the outlet of heater to your existing hot water line. As regarding a professional Electrician, I don't really know why these guys are asking for such. All you need to get is a 3-PIN plug and connect to the bare wires (Pig Tail) of heater and switch on the unit, and you are ready to go. Maximum installation time including plumbing shouldn't be more than an HOUR. Anything more than that means you are DEFINITELY DOING SOMETHING UNCALLED FOR!

Eternal BU195M Condensing Hybrid Water Heater, 19.5 GPM Review

Eternal BU195M Condensing Hybrid Water Heater, 19.5 GPM
Average Reviews:

The unit we bought was actually the 195. I strongly recommend against buying this unit to replace an existing hot water tank. It demands far more gas supply than typical tank units, and by the time you do all the gas plumbing rework needed to make the thing work, it is more expensive than will ever be recovered. It needs 145,000 Btu for the 145 model, and 195,000 Btu for the 195 model. If you have a typical older gas meter it's probably too small. The unit is a pig. It needs to be the first in line to get gas, and you will probably end up running new gas supply lines for it. The unit is tempermental and Grand Hall recommends that only "Experts" with this unit install it. That's another way of saying it isn't really road ready, and the installer has to fuss with it to get it to work right. Unless you have someone experienced with fussing with this unit, you are in for a lot of expense. I bought this unit and I regret having done so. We literally wasted over $5,000 getting this thing in and operating. That's $5,000 over and above the cost of the unit and what we thought it would cost to install it. We estimate our total expenses for this fiasco at something like $10,000. I could run a really crappy tank model for a long time for $10,000. Even with tax credits its still a financial disaster.
And don't get sucked in on that "Eternal" bit. What they don't tell you is that when they say 14.5 gallons per minute or 19.5 gallons per minute that is predicated on cold water coming in at 90 degrees. No place has cold water supplied at 90 degrees. By the time you factor in the actual temperature the water comes in at, your gallons per minute will be something in the 2 to 5 range. Then they will tell you that you need two of these puppies, and that puts you back to the gas and Btu problem. Don't get sucked in. Buy a good old fashioned tank model, and call it a day. You'll be vastly better off.

I use two of these (single 3/4" line split into both units, then back to single 3/4" line out) as I live in the northeast and have a family of 8. With all three showers (low flow heads), the clothes washer, dishwasher, and the kitchen sink (can't forget the kitchen sink!) going, I had hot water. The units are set to just below medium. My electric use dropped 30% from the 40gal electric unit I had that only gave us about 10 minutes of hot water and we couldn't use multiple showers at the same time. I have had these units since 7/06. I did not have to adjust the temp during the winter. I am very satisfied.

Reliance 6 50 DORT 606 Series 55 Gallon Electric Water Heater Review

Reliance 6 50 DORT 606 Series 55 Gallon Electric Water Heater
Average Reviews:

Great price, and looks nice, but the anode rod, which determines the life of the tank is only 28" long. It should be at least 44 or 48 inches long. And its aluminum, which may poison your water should you use it in cooking.
I am changing to a 48" magnesium rod. The factory rod is perfectly designed to last about 3 years, so the tank should blow out around 6.1 years.
Since the new rod is only 13$ its still a good buy. Made in Mexico, unfortunately and sloppy work - the anode covered with pipe dope its entire length, and lots of metallic particles - no clean up of fitting before installation.
I paid $239 for mine. Now its much higher.

Installed pretty easily in my wife's bathroom. Had it on a 15 amp breaker. Had to up it to 20 amps. So far no problems. May order another, but I'll have to install another electric line in for my bathroom.

Bosch AquaStar Horizontal Vent Terminator #AQ3 Review

Bosch AquaStar Horizontal Vent Terminator #AQ3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is an excellent kit for any unit that will be vented horizontally that does not exceed 18 inches from the outside of your house. In other words, you need to be mounting the water heater against the outside wall of your home for this kit to work. If you are mounting your unit against such a wall and the wall is less than 18 inches in thickness, this is a perfect kit and will have everything you need. The only downside is that the kit does not do a good job of telling you how to install the required wall heat shield. A quick call to the company can provide you with the help you will need to install it.

Richmond Rmtg-66xp Outdoor Propane LP Tankless Water Heater Review

Five years ago I installed a LP Bosch tankless water heater. It died recently and the cost of repairs was more than the new Reem. New one works just as well as the Bosch and cost about half. Time will tell if it holds up.
